May 17, 2024
By Lopez Island Historical Society & Museum
May 24, 2024, 7:00 - 9:00pm, Lopez Island Grange #1060, 452 Richardson Rd
Join us on Friday, May 24, for our second installment of the Lopez Film Series, celebrating Memorial Day and two members of this enigmatic island family.

The Lucky Ones: Allied Airmen and Buchenwald (1994)
The National Film Board of Canada's film, The Lucky Ones, tells the tale of former Allied airmen (including former Lopez resident, Jim Hastin) through their personal and collective stories of life before, during and after their detention in the infamous Buchenwald concentration camp during WWII.

Uncle Phil's Last Hurrah (2007)
Upon learning of his terminal diagnosis, "Uncle Phil" Hastin, born on Lopez in 1915, gathered the community to give him a send off. Sue DuMond captured the event celebrating this enigmatic Lopez character and community member on her handheld camera.

$10 suggested admission, no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Popcorn and refreshments available.

Lopez Film Series is a collaboration between Lopez Museum and Lopez Island Grange #1060 showcasing films shot on, inspired by, or featuring people from Lopez Island. Stay tuned for more films!
