Getting Vaccinated Against COVID-19 on Lopez
Jan 27, 2021
By the Lopez Covid Health Support Group
There is a lot of information floating around on this subject, some of it is true and up to date, and some is not.
Our goal here is to provide you with concise information on how to get the COVID vaccine on Lopez Island. Things are also changing very quickly, so we are not going to try to give you all the details. We will try to give you a good overview and then point you to the resources that are being kept up to date and that you will need to follow up with.
** NOTE that all the providers listed below are overwhelmed with the tasks of preparing for and administering vaccines. Please don’t contact them directly with questions, as they will publish notices as soon as new information is available. **
** NOTE: Right now, demand for the vaccine exceeds supply. Appointments cannot be scheduled until the vaccine has arrived on Lopez and advance notice is not always given, making scheduling challenging and frustrating for all. So it is up to you to keep informed and try to get an appointment as soon as you are eligible and the vaccine is available. **
THANK YOU for your patience as we work together to meet the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
VACCINATION OVERVIEW
Vaccination is by appointment only, scheduled online as vaccine becomes available for those who are eligible.
Check facility websites frequently for updated information and answers to questions, etc.
• Eligibility: See the San Juan County website, which links to the state Find Your Phase Tool at: http://www.findyourphasewa.org/ to determine if you are eligible. Note: this is not confirmation of an appointment.
• There are no wait-list options. Unfortunately, this is not feasible at this time.
• You’ll be scheduled for your second dose (28 days later) when you receive your first dose. (Note: this may not be true of UW Clinics)
• The location of these events will likely change - so please check websites for this information.
WHERE CAN I GET A VACCINE?
Right now there are three providers on Lopez:
1. San Juan County Health & Community Services:
Up to date info is at: https://www.sanjuanco.com/1737/COVID-Vaccine-Info
Appointments for Lopez Island are on Thursdays
a. Step 1: The first thing you need to do is to confirm your eligibility. Go to this link: http://www.findyourphasewa.org/ Be sure to take a photo or screen shot of your confirmation, or print your email confirmation. You must have this with you when you go to get your vaccine. NOTE: Eligibility confirmation is NOT a scheduled appointment.
b. Step 2: If you are eligible (see Step 1) - Schedule Vaccine by going to the following link for Lopez Island: https://live.vcita.com/site/SanJuanCountyHCS/online-scheduling?staff=nu3ksz0i5muoh8um&service=6jum0etufvhpr6am NOTE: next appointments will be available only at or after 5pm on Friday, January 29th until available vaccine is booked.
c. Step 3: Before your appointment, make sure you have a copy of your confirmation (step 1), and a photo ID. AND watch the informational video shown here: https://youtu.be/6KVOtHDa4fc Vaccines will be administered at a location which will be announced when you make your appointment. At your appointment, you will fill out a patient consent form and a vaccinating nurse will discuss it with you. You will be asked to stay for 15 to 30 minutes to make sure you don’t have an adverse reaction before you leave the vaccination site. If you have any severe adverse reaction after you leave the site (fever of 101, nausea or vomiting, or greater reaction), please call your medical provider or 911. If you have a moderate or severe reaction, please call 360-378-4474 to report your reaction to the county database. You will receive a CDC vaccination card with the date of your vaccination and the date of your second dose. Be sure to bring the CDC card to your second dose appointment.
