SJIMA Spring Exhibition
March 8, 2024 to June 3. 2024
March 8, 2024 to June 3. 2024
This Spring SJIMA brings you three incredible exhibitions.
In the Nichols Gallery, Shades of Compassion, an exhibition of 50 photographs by 41 international photographers, will guide you on an inner journey to evoke the positive constructive emotion of compassion--defined as the intention to respond with kindness towards those in need, including all living things, one's self, and Planet Earth, motivated by a true concern for their well-being.
In the North Gallery, Tom Small, Stories in Stone and Light, will take you on a personal journey where stone, glass and bronze engage in a timeless conversation between the viewer, the materials and the earth. Experiencing this work is to see stone come alive, with its own identity. "Most of my pieces begin and open a conversation. It is how I find the quiet poetry of the earth. Quiet, because it doesn’t speak in words, but poetry, because it speaks inside of me. I look forward to hearing what new ideas emerge.” - Tom Small
In the Atrium, OctoEyes, Reverie: Myxogastria, invites us to descend to the forest floor and explore the microcosmic world of myxogastria (slime mold), tiny fantastical fruiting bodies that inspire sculptures that light up and respond to your presence.
Visit SJIMA.org for more information and to schedule a docent tour.
The museum is open Friday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free for members and those age 18 and under, $10 for non-members, and Mondays are "pay as you like" admission.
