Classic Jazz and the Great American Songbook
This Week: Today’s program marks the opening of the fall season with a dozen songs with “Autumn” in the title or referring to the fall season in general, beginning with song “Equinox,” written by a jazz giant born near the fall equinox, John Coltrane, born September 23, 1926. Several other great artists were born on September 23, each of whom we will profile, include singers Ray Charles and Irene Reid, plus tenor sax/arranger Frank Foster. We will also sample songs written by Fred Ahlert (born September 19) and the beginnings of our annual George Gershwin survey (born September 26, 1898).
