This Week: We begin with three more songbirds’ birthdays, Annie Ross (born July 25, 1930), Karrin Allyson (July 27, 1963, turning 61) and Nnenna Freelon (July 28, 1954, turning 70). In the second hour, we bring you Part 3 (of 3) of the career of Joe Mooney, this time with his trio (featuring guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli) in 1949 and 1951, and then his final recordings, from 1964 and 1965. Next up will be samples from the Ray Brown big band (not the famous bassist, but another Ray Brown). In the final hour, we dip into the “F” box of LP records, with guitarist Tal Farlow and trumpeter Art Farmer.
