This week: Today we honor the transition month of November 1924, a century ago, when two great European composers died - first, France’s Gabriel Faure and then Italy’s operatic composer Giacomo Puccini. Both are most noted for their vocal music, and the day after Puccini died the Gershwin brothers, George and Ira, debuted their first major show on Broadway, “Lady Be Good.” So… is this the month when the opera house passed the major musical baton to Broadway? We’ll play music by Faure, Puccini and Gershwin for some clues.
