Covid concern. Don't be polite when rude actions are called for.
Nov 16, 2020
On Sunday I was at the Transfer Station where everyone...EXCEPT ONE... were following all covid protocols. A middle age woman without a mask came up to me as I waited for my turn to enter TIOLI and out of nowhere was very close to me talking nonstop and then attempted to hug me and commented "Your not afraid of the virus are you?" I was so taken off guard my head was spinning! I have been aware of this woman in the past but thought her Lopez Connection was long gone. After being very careful since January I now will be watching my temperature and all the typical covid infection signs.

I can't believe I was polite when I should have been rude and shouted quickly, Back off, stand away!

Caroline,

Oh, I knew it was a misunderstanding. And I have been deliberately using provocative language to make my points. But that's how free speech works.

Also it takes an incredible rain of abuse to make a dent in my smugness.

Mr. Colyar, I would like to apologize for ascribing malevolent intentions to your use of the word pygmy. I was under the impression that the word specifically was in reference to the tribes in Africa. Upon some investigation it is an anthropological term applied to any group of people all having the stature of those whom in the west we refer to as midgets.

When I say "Moral Pygmy" I am NOT referring to those wonderful people in Africa. You are most probably quite right about them. I don't make a habit of judging people's behavior as anything but as individuals. I am referring to people who's moral stature is short. Very short.

To accuse me of such a blanket characterization is ... Read All

Mr. Colyar, you're using "moral Pygmy" as an insult? What is wrong with you? I can only guess that you have never met any of the wonderful Pygmy people. I have had the honor and privilege of going on several mission trips into the Congo, and you are completely wrong about them. They are some of the most moral, ethical people I have ever me ... Please, some of you, read scientific articles on the pandemic, not just Facebook or F** News. Over 250,000 deaths so far, which is likely an underestimate. And the rate is rising quickly in this country and others.
Many studies have shown that masks and distancing do work. If you don't wear a mask in public spaces, it's not only against the law ... Read All

No, Samantha. You do NOT have a right to be in a public place without your mask on. Your right to breath on other people at this time is no more absolute than your right to shoot a gun about randomly or drive when drinking or when talking on your phone. I'm being fairly polite to these people by not calling the sheriff.

I often wonder why LVM never offered Seniors or people with compromised immunity, or people who believe in germ theory an early shopping time from like 7am to 7:30 am like many stores on the mainland. Even if it was one or two days a week. For that half hour everyone in the store could put on masks 😷 or come to work after 7:30. then we could quickly shop ... Read All

The only thing I’m upset about is people calling people names and saying nothing to their face. The mask shaming, the bulling, when there is no proof anyone at the store whose been a shopper or an employee have got anyone sick. I’m upset because so many people just choose to complain.

Interesting I thought the reason the cases were going up was because of non mask wearers. so if that were true, seattle (king county) wouldn’t have the highest numbers. If EVERYONE in Seattle ALWAYS wear their masks. Right?

I have encountered a few mask-resisters on Lopez in surprising locations. It may be that it is also partly for politeness or respect that we should ALWAYS wear th ... Read All

Today I went in the market and two of the butchers were standing out in the isle yacking away with their masks down around their necks. And this isn't the first time either. The manager has been contacted about this many times and refuses do anything about it.

Sounds like the same woman who came to our garage sale on Sunday -- talked a mile a minute without a mask until we finally asked her to stop and she left. We waited too long so as to not be rude but should have challenged her IMMEDIATELY. Some people don't get it and need to be told. Thanks.
