Return of the picnic table

To our Lopez community,
As many of you are aware, the picnic table was returned to the Weeks Point Way road-end yesterday by the County’s Public Works road crew.
Thank you for sharing your concerns about public access to the picnic table. I understand the frustration and anger of the community around my direction to remove the table, and I take responsibility for that. I also take responsibility for the decision to have the table returned.
The County Sheriff has been asked to continue to respond in a timely manner to any public safety concerns or noise ordinance violations related to the public use of that parcel should they arise in the future.
Community members are asked to continue to be responsible for their own refuse when they visit the property as the County does not collect garbage from this area.
I remain committed to listening and responding to my neighbors and constituents to the best of my ability and serving the entire Lopez Island community as your county council member.
