2025 Dog Licenses Now on Sale

All dogs in San Juan County are required to be licensed annually. Dog licenses for 2025 are available starting November 18.
SAN JUAN COUNTY, WA. November 18, 2024 - The San Juan County Auditor’s office is ready for the 2025 dog licensing season! Each year, the department has the pleasure of recognizing a ‘Celebrity Dog’. This year, our office is recognizing a very good boy. We are thrilled to introduce, (although you may already know him) … Hooper!
Hooper, a spunky Yorkie, lovingly joined the House family in 2018. In December 2019, Hooper and his family moved from Camden, Maine to Friday Harbor to operate a family medical clinic. Now at 6 years old, he is a staff and patient favorite at Eventide. Hooper doesn't know a stranger and is ready to greet everyone when they come through the door. And yes, he expects lots of pets! Hooper wants to remind all his canine friends to purchase or renew their 2025 dog license today.
All dogs in San Juan County are required to be licensed annually. Dog licenses for 2025 are available starting November 18. The license fees are $15 for dogs that are spayed or neutered and $40 for “natural” canines. A late fee of $10 applies to licenses renewed after March 31, 2025. You can add a photo of your dog for an additional $5 per year, which will display when the dog’s license number is looked up. San Juan County dog license fees fund the licensing program and an account that compensates residents for livestock killed or injured by stray, dangerous dogs. The balance of collected fees is distributed to the local Animal Protection Societies for impound services.
Dog licenses are available at a variety of San Juan County locations. If you live on San Juan Island, renew your dog’s license at the San Juan County Auditor’s office or the Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor. Orcas Island residents can purchase or renew at Pawki’s, Eastsound Kennels, or Orcas Animal Protection Society. Lopez Island residents can visit Sunset Builders Supply or Lopez Animal Protection Society. For added convenience, licenses can also be purchased through the mail.
