Picnic Table Removed
Nov 3, 2025
Who authorized the removal of the picnic table at the Weeks Point Way Road End? This is beloved by Lopez residents and visitors alike. I visit this road end about 4-7 days a week. Someone said the picnic table made it a park. I have had a picnic table at my home. Lots of Lopez parks do not have picnic tables, and lots of businesses do. What I do see is the elderly and Lopez Village residents sitting at that table to rest, eat lunch, and enjoy the marine life. What is going on???? Please return the picnic table.

Ms Jane Fuller, thanks for your post explaining why you removed the county park bench. So could you replace the ka-boom 4th of July fireworks with a pretty light show? Because it’s a nuisance, pollutes the air, dumps trash, and scares my cat. I know I’m just one person complaining about something many others enjoy but I’m sure you’ll agree that’s c ... Read All

How can Ms Fuller advocate for a recreation district while actively removing recreational assets from parks? The semantics of whether this is a road end or a park doesn’t really matter. It’s a site used for recreating and it is public property full-stop.

And to be clear, I am empathetic with the ... Read All

By SANDY BISHOP: This is a good and timely conversation. I live just up from the skate park. I see/hear that space every day. Often at 6:30 or 7 in the morning I hear the loud and sometimes angry cries of a person or two who do not have homes and have been out all night. I've found people and their garbage left behind on our land. I called the cops ex ... Read All

This brings up another interesting point about the Weeks Point Way access--how much public tidelands does it actually provide access to? Did the County confirm whether the neighboring tidelands (up to mean high water) were public or private?

Thanks for your astute comment, Carol, and I couldn't agree more. I remember the Blackie Brady fight because I happened to rent Jerry Schulz's cabin for several years in the early 80s and know he was deeply opposed to the formation of a public park at the road end. The parcel on Weeks Point Way where the bench was removed (#251543007000) is owned b ... Read All

Deja Vue all over again. About 45 years ago two property owners were advocating to vacate the county road that dead ended at Huggins Bay. My aunt relentlessly with determination attended many county commissioner meetings to protest this. She prevailed and this is the nexus of Blackie Brady Park at the end of Huggins Rd at the south end of the island. Thes ... Read All

According to San Juan County Polaris Property Search, the legal description of Weeks Point Way public shore access is: PR GOV LT 4 COUNTY PARK.

I rented the house directly adjacent to the public landing on Weeks Point Way a little over 20 years ago. Back then, it was an ordinary rental for ordinary folks like me (a single mom working full-time at the ferry landing to support my family). Unlike now, there was no fence between my house and the public landing and folks came and went all the time. Did i ... Read All

I am unconvinced by the argument that Weeks Point Way is not a pocket park, considering that other road ends in our county are treated as such. It is called a park on the county document above, an ... Read All

Yes, there will always be a few people who disrespect public property. The kiosk at Lopez Hill has been run over/vandalized numerous times in the past 20+ yea ... Read All

BY SANDY BISHOP:
Yesterday I commented to the San Juan Council. My letter is below. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this. My understanding is that our Council person and the two men who neighbor the public road-end, got together and decided to have the picnic table removed. If I find anything out will post an update. ... Read All

When I noticed the missing picnic table at the Weeks Point Road roadend I thought it had been stolen & thought about calling the sheriff. I have enjoyed the use of the roadend & the picnic table for years. Return the picnic table please! I live in the village, but do not own waterfront or have a water view. The roadend & picnic table give me access to the ... Read All
