There is a Washington State law prohibiting the sale of household items or solvents that contain toxic fumes or can be used to produce intoxicating effects, to anyone if it is known that the buyer is abusing those substances. I know these products have been sold to people with inhalant substance abuse disorders by multiple sellers on Lopez Island, by multiple employees. I also am quite certain that many of these employees continued to sell these products, sometimes several products at once, to persons they were aware were using the products illegally.

It would appear that these employees have not been informed of this law by their employers. For this I am linking the code for all to see, and demanding that we abide by this law in our community. I am also demanding that business owners, so-called pillars of our community, take responsibility for informing their employees on the laws relating to harmful substances that they are responsible for selling to the public. Please do not enable this addiction. Please tell your employees that if they are aware of supplying inhalants to known users, (it is a small island afterall, and there aren’t that many places for people to purchase), that it is actually illegal to sell to them.
