RE: County Charter Review Committee & Proposed Ballot Issues
Oct 12, 2021
I am fairly new to the island and very confused by the CRC ballot measures we are to vote on soon.

I have watched a few of the recent CRC meetings and previewed some of the previous meetings. It appears, Kevin Ranker of Orcas Island, seems to dominate the meetings although there are 17 other members. When doing an internet search of Kevin Ranker, I am wondering with his reputation how he got elected to this group, let alone voted in as the Chair. If you have been paying attention, you will see a video where he speaks as though we, the people of SJC, will all vote for a Climate Commissioner because he has polled people in this county for 20 years and "we can paint a cow blue and say it is the climate commissioner and people will get excited about it." I am simply amazed by the fact that this same person has been scrutinized for multiple legal issues, resigned from the Senate after being investigated for creating a hostile work environment, sexual harassment, anger issues and more. Then, he discusses during a public CRC committee meeting the "underbelly in San Juan County that is racist and sexist" that seems to exclude himself.

Is the CRC legally able to put all of these measures on the ballot? Have you read the ballot measures? There is a lot of word salad happening while adding more layers of government and possibly hurting our local small businesses along with making proposals that will have to be funded by the taxpayers.

If you would like to know more, there is a special meeting of the CRC tomorrow via Zoom from 4-5:30pm allowing time for public comment.
