Amie Riesterer will present new paintings and give an artist talk/Q&A at the First Saturday Art Walk at Lopez Library 4:30 Saturday October 3rd. About the paintings: Inspired by Lopez Island's "Go Slow" or "Go Slower" attitude, Amie gave herself permission to slow down, pay attention, and enjoy what Lopez had to offer during her residency. She spent her days exploring the island by bike, stopping by local businesses, talking with people she met along the way, and painting the places, people, and experiences that stayed with her. Working from direct observation and photographs she takes herself, she is drawn to the places where people gather. She hopes viewers find something familiar in the work: a place they've visited, a moment they've experienced, or a feeling they recognize. The paintings are a collection of the places, people, and everyday experiences that captured her attention during the residency.
