Did you know Clara Barton established the American Red Cross after experiencing the International Red Cross during the Franco-Prussian War? We are not government directed. All monies come from donations only. We, as volunteers, agree to abide by certain principles such as respecting the diversity of the total human community and for service to each and everyone with compassion and respect. Is that a good place to start the questions? Stop and say "hi" even if you are just curious.
In my personal years with the ARC I have found it the best place I've experienced doing volunteer work. The higher ups, paid employees (10% of the organization), listen to us, to our complaints, to our ideas, to what we experience with boots on the ground that could improve the Red Cross. They have great training programs that you do at your own speed and you work according to the schedule you set up.
