This Week: The first hour is composed of 10 songs with Spring in the title, in honor of the first week of Spring - which began last Monday. We’ll also include three more versions of “Footprints,” the most notable composition by the late Wayne Shorter. The second hour features the work of four great tenor saxophonists born March 26 to 29 - James Moody, Flip Phillips, Ben Webster and Michael Brecker. Then comes the centennial of two jazz greats born the same day a century ago (March 28, 1923), trumpeter/composer/arranger Thad Jones, and the bassist and leader of the Ike Isaacs trio. The final hour includes our third and final set by the Ahmad Jamal trio recorded live at Seattle’s Penthouse night club in 1964, in a just released 4-CD set, along with a potpourri of selections from our other favorite jazz radio programs airing each weekend.
