This Week: Today repeats Part 2 (of 3) of The Tale of 2 Sergei’s, the two Russian composers born in April, this week sampling their offerings during the turbulent decade, 1912 to 1922, and how they responded differently to the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917 and subsequent Russian civil wars. We’ll start with Sergei Rachmaninov’s gentle “Vocalise” (1912) and then concentrate most of this hour on the younger Ukrainian-born Sergei Prokofiev, including parts of his debut offerings - his Piano Concerto #1 (1912), Violin Concerto #1 (1916) and Symphony #1 (1917), closing with Hebrew Themes Overture (1917), Piano Concerto #3 (1921) and “Love of Three Oranges” (1922).
