The Leadership We Need to Expand Services and Save Taxpayer Dollars
In this time of transition, we need an experienced leader like Albert Berger to ensure that we have an excellent and reliable clinic provider that will offer the services that Lopez Island residents need.
In eight years serving on the Hospital District Board, Albert Berger has demonstrated a commitment to saving taxpayer dollars while providing quality health care.
As the search for a new clinic provider continues, Albert is committed to exploring how to provide new services, including after hours and urgent care.
Albert Berger led the effort to save taxpayers money and set aside funds in a Reserve Fund for the first time. At the same time, he supported additional funding for expanding vital services.
Albert understands how important the Lopez health clinic services are to life on Lopez, after 30 years as a homeowner and the last 15 years as a full-time resident.
Albert has the commitment, expertise and experience to successfully transition to a new clinic provider and explore providing new services that Lopez Islanders need to stay healthy.
Highlights of Albert's record and experience:
•Saved taxpayers more than $600,000 through careful budgeting
•Led the effort to set aside funds in a Reserve Fund for the first time, to prepare for unexpected needs and transitions
•Supported funding for expanded services such as physical therapy, Hamlet House and mobile dental care
•Deep understanding of San Juan County administration and budgeting process
•Administered multi-million dollar contracts for biomedical research projects
•Hospital District Commissioner for the past eight years and Chair of the Finance Committee
•UW Medical School professor for 30 years
