Question about LSWDD Reserve Funds - Answered
Jan 13, 2025
In answer to a community question - “Why does LSWDD have such a large reserve fund?”

Great question! The amount we hold in reserve serves 2 vital functions. The first is financial protection for the community should our Levy not pass. If the Levy failed to pass, the board would need an amount equal to the Levy to continue operating for the next year. That amount is currently $210,000. This guarantees that LSWDD will always be financially equipped to serve the Lopez community.

The second is our urgent need to replace the roll off truck in the near future. This is the truck that transports our garbage to the mainland. This type of vehicle is expensive, with used versions costing over $150,000.

There is a large amount in the reserve fund. But it is there to fund two potentially expensive community needs and ensure that our garbage and recycling service reliably serves the Lopez community for the long term.
