Terramation as a burial option
Apr 13, 2022
The Lopez Union Cemetery Association is working to make terramation, the respectful composting of human bodies, available as a burial option for Lopez residents. Representatives from Return Home are coming to Lopez on Earth Day, April 22nd, to explain the process. We’ll meet at 2 pm at Center Church (next to the cemetery). Cemetery Board members will also be present to answer questions.

The Cemetery Association wants to know if enough people are interested for us to put time and money into developing a section for terramation remains. Your thoughts?

Marty, I am so happy that this option is being explored on Lopez. I have a couple of very close friends who had to go for the White Eagle Memorial over in Eastern WA. It's beautiful there but a long drive for those family and friends who want to participate in this earth-loving ritual. I actually get excited, thinking about going back into the soil, ... Read All

VERY interested! Haha, sorry, am I being too enthusiastic about my death and the potential composting of my body here on Lopez? I have no reason to think my departure is immanent, but the idea of this being my eventual path is a beautiful thought to me. So yes, consider me interested.
