A question about the slug population this year (Wildlife)

Am I the only one who has had hardly any slugs this year so far? Even in the spring I hardly saw any. We used to have thousands (the black ones especially). Every evening I used to go outside with a spray bottle of water and ammonia and reduce the population at first by 40 or so, then next year by 20--
and now nothing. I wonder if that is a sign of something? Good or bad?

Slug reproduction depends on temperature and soil moisture. If temps are under 40 degrees, incubation is 175 days. Incubation periods shorten with increasing temps. We've had an atypical cold winter and spring due greater jet stream amplitude and the.... Read all

maybe they are just at the houses of people named tracy. I have both the big banana slugs and the little ones that you don't normally see but if I lift up a pot on the ground there they are. But zero yellow jackets thus far.

Yes, Tracy, I have looked and I even water in the late evening, but nothing. I am not complaining--I was just wondering if I had conquered the slug problem or if it was
something to do with the climate change.

As for Yellow Jackets this year, there have been very few at Recycling unlike last year, but we hope people will rinse out their containers to avoid stings to the volunteers.

Just did a quick evening round the garden with headlamp and "harvested" 22 large brown slugs and 4 snails, all on the move and I haven't watered for 2 days.
Christa, try checking in the dark on these hot days, if you are worried your.... Read all

They are all in my garden. I thought a rat was eating my zucchinis, big chunks taken out of every one near the stem. So I set a rat trap and went out a few days ago at dusk to check and there were 10 large brown slugs on the trap eating the bait, and 20.... Read all

I think its cause it is so very dry and hot. We didn't even get Junuary this year. All the slugs are laying low, waiting for the rains to come back.

1 slug so far this year, a tiny one. Seems very weird as usually there are masses.

Not sure about the slugs but here is a helpful article about the wasps.https://news.wsu.edu/2017/07/24/somethings-missing-wasps/

The same here, very few slugs....plus basically NO yellow Jackets. Typically, in order to pick plums, extreme caution is needed due to the mass numbers of Yellow Jackets.....this year I have seen just one.....but not sure this is good.
