FRIENDS of the San JuansFRIENDS was founded in 1979 to support San Juan County’s efforts to manage growth and protect natural environments. Since then, FRIENDS' activities have expanded to integrated marine research, habitat restoration, stewardship, environmental law, education, endangered species protection, civic engagement and capacity building. FRIENDS’ work reverberates throughout the Salish Sea in the form of solution-oriented actions, creative public-private partnerships, innovative applied science, and community-based programs that increase the capacity of citizens and government at the local and regional level.
